Infection Control Nurse


The Southern Regional Health Authority (SRHA), a statutory body under the Ministry of Health responsible for the management and operation of Public Health Services within the Parishes of Clarendon, Manchester and St. Elizabeth, invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Infection Control Nurse.

The Infection Control Nurse is responsible for ensuring that all infection Control Practices are maintained.

Location: Percy Junor Hospital

 

Qualification & Experience

  • Certificate/Diploma/B.Sc. in General Nursing from an accredited school of Nursing.
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Jamaica as a Registered Nurse.
  • At least two (2) years experience in a secondary care facility.
  • Post basic training on Operating Theatre Technique would be an asset.

  • Fundamental of nursing;
  • Life behavioral, Natural & Medical Sciences;
  • Pharmacology & Therapeutic;
  • Introduction to Research Methodology: Nutrition;
  • Diagnosis Test and Treatments;
  • Elements of Managements: and Nursing Health Related Legislation.

 

Key Responsibility

  • Collect, analyze and interpret infection-control data - Liaise with other members of the Infection Control Committee regarded significant issues that may compromise Infection Control Practice.
  • Monitor the practice of policies and procedures as outlined in the Infection Control Manual, which includes guidelines governing the disposal of sharps, hospital waste and body fluids.
  • Plan, implement, manage and evaluate infection prevention and control activities.
  • Conduct infection control risk assessments for construction and renovation projects; equipment inspection, and pest control
  • Educate individuals and groups about the risk, prevention, transmission, and control of infection, disease-specific care, appropriate precautions, and appropriate assessments
  • Establish accepted standards and develop, implement, monitor and revise infection control policies and procedures to assure compliance with the standards
  • Investigate, manage and conduct surveillance of suspected and confirmed outbreaks of infection
  • Provide consultation on infection risk assessment, prevention, and control strategies
